Profile
Leica Microsystems is a leading global designer and producer of innovative, high-tech, precision optical systems for the analysis of microstructures. It is one of the market leaders in each of the fields Microscopy, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, Imaging Systems, Specimen Preparation and Medical Equipment. High-performance optical technology and systems from Leica Microsystems provide research, industrial, and medical customers with the tools needed to examine the smallest building blocks of life and to analyze the structures and properties of materials. The advent of 4Pi technology brings far-reaching advances into the nanoworld. This new light microscopy method, invented by Professor Stefan Hell, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, and further developed for the world marketplace by Leica Microsystems, allows spatial imaging of microscopic structures with a sharpness of detail and increase of structural information that have never before been possible with any other commercial light microscope. The Leica TCS 4PI high-tech fluorescence microscope from Leica Microsystems can, for the first time, reveal tiny structures of only 100 nm, purely optically. The Leica TCS 4PI microscope opens up new avenues in basic research, such as developing effective therapies to treat diseases such as Alzheimer\\\\\\\'s, diabetes, and malaria. Leica Microsystems won the German Business Innovation Award for the third time in 2005 for its 4Pi technology.
